Joshua 1 & 2 :
1. After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.
Purpose of God Setting His people free .
And the Lord spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Let My people go, that they may serve (worship) Me.
(Exodus 8: 8)
But command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’
Deuteronomy 3:28
Why Joshua?
- He is filled with the Holy Spirit
Deut. 34: 9 Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.
He is like Joseph so filled with Spirit ( Genesis 41:38)
- He is man of faith and courage
When Moses sent 12 spies to scout the land of Canaan only Joshua and Caleb, son of Jephunneh, believed the Israelites could conquer the land with God’s help.
- He is a fighter (1st mention of Joshua)
Exodus 17: 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”
- He is obedient
Crossing river of Jordan and War of Jericho
- He loves the presence of the Lord
Joshua stayed back at the Tent of Meeting
Exodus 33:11
- He loves to serve God
But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24: 15
Crossing the river Jordan
15 Now the Jordan is in flood all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
Joshua 3: 15-16
Moses comes out with dead bones in the box, Joshua comes out with the ark.
We come out with the glory of God.
Jordan crossing represents new life in the Spirit.
It was at Jordan that Elijah has gone to heaven.
Elisha receives double portion.
IN Jordan , Jesus was filled with the Holy Ghost.
Israelites walk with their feet but we walk by faith.
So Arise!
The Lord is raising up a new Joshua generation to fulfill his global purposes. We are living in the last days, God is raising up a last day army who will fulfill all that he will desire for his people and that the kingdom of this world will become Christ’s.
End time army is sick and tired of doing things the same way, moving in circle not accomplishing what God has set them up to God.
